Why cardiovascular fitness is great for your heart health, and what you can do to increase it?

Cardio- I’m sure we have all heard of this type of exercise before, and for some reason, most of us have this misconception that it is fundamental to losing weight. However, weight aside, cardiovascular health is one of the utmost important forms of exercise for longevity, heart health, and optimal wellbeing. So why is cardio so important in everyday living? By increasing the efficiency of your lungs, heart, and blood vessels, cardio can reduce your risk of developing heart disease. Ultimately, by incorporating cardio-based exercises into your lifestyle and workout regimen- you will better your heart health and fitness. Sounds like a win-win situation to us!

This activity in particular enables the heart to achieve blood flow in the small vessels around it, where blockages of fatty tissues can build up over time. When performed regularly, cardiovascular fitness strengthens the heart and blood vessels, improves the flow of oxygen throughout the body, can lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and reduce your risk of developing heart disease.

With various diseases constantly emerging, implementing cardio in everyday life will help you to better fight these off. Although the positive health benefits are evident, cardio will also boost your mood, energy, and spirits- leaving you ready to take on the day!

So we think we can all agree and let go of this persona that cardio has- where we have to be running kilometers every day, performing high-intensity workouts, and burning the maximum amount of calories. When in reality, “healthy” is more than that. Healthy is balance, longevity, strength, and most important- happiness. We for one know, that by including cardiovascular fitness- whether that be in the form of a 30-minute walk, swimming, playing tennis with your family, dancing, or whatever you wish- you will reap the benefits. It does not have to be a strenuous exercise for it to be effective. Movement is key, with that being ANY form of movement.

So how can you increase your cardio in everyday life? As mentioned above, this can be achieved through various activities. A simple 30-minute walk in nature, or around your neighboring streets is a great option! Aiming for even 20 minutes to start, will create that oxygen and blood to flow- and we know your heart will love you for it. If your kids are always at you to play tennis, take them up on the offer! This form of movement gets your cardio in for the day without even thinking about it. Overall, cardiovascular fitness plays a significant role in our health. With it fundamentally being an insurance policy for our heart. For longevity- the implementation of cardio is key and one of the chambers to a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.
